Cyclists Fighting Cancer Deliver Fitness Support to Children’s Oncology Units
PITCH | Junior Exercise Equipment delivered to Leeds Children Hospital

Today (25 June), junior exercise equipment equipment will be delivered by Cyclists Fighting Cancer to Leeds Children Hospital for children being treated with cancer.

Over the last month, children’s cancer charity Cyclists Fighting Cancer and Club Peloton have arranged for junior exercise equipment to be delivered to seven children’s oncology units in Leeds, Cardiff, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Belfast for children being treated with cancer.

This will help support the hospital’s activity zones (areas for children to work out while in hospital receiving treatment) and will consist of junior exercise equipment, specifically shipped over from the United States, including recumbent and upright exercise bikes, stair walkers, and elliptical trainers.

Last year, approximately £55,500 was raised to fund the purchase of exercise equipment, beating its £40,000 target. Forty professionals – including some from Leeds – from the UK’s property industry took part in one of Club Peloton’s flagship rides, Explore 2024, cycling more than 440kms from Rimini to Rome, in support of Cyclists Fighting Cancer.

Commenting on the impact of the fundraised equipment, Mike Grisenthwaite, CEO of Cyclists Fighting Cancer, said

“We’re so pleased to have started rolling out the primary treatment centres acquired as a direct result of Explore 2024’s fundraising to children’s oncology units around the county. The reception has been overwhelming – the hospital staff are pleased with the quality of equipment and the accessibility for the younger children who have previously been excluded from exercising. So far, seven units across the country have received equipment but the level of funding means we can help a further seven hospitals, so watch this space for further developments. Thanks to Club Peloton and the Explore riders for all their support.”
